The legendary Red-Haired Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, also celebrates his birthday on March 9, and the official ONE PIECE accounts released a 2025 illustration in his honor. Interestingly, his biggest rival, Dracule “Hawk Eyes” Mihawk, shares the birthday, with Franky also celebrating today.
As the key figure in Luffy’s journey, Shanks remains one of the most mysterious and powerful characters in the series. We’ve just started seeing some more context into his lineage in the manga, and many theories still surround him.

The @OPcom_info X account shared an amazing illustration featuring Shanks, depicting him with his iconic sword, Gryphon.
The main @Eiichiro_Staff account also posted a separate image celebrating Shanks, featuring the scene of him sending his haki towards Green Bull in Wano.
Shanks’ Role in ONE PIECE’s Story
Shanks continues to be a major force in the story, with his recent confrontation with Eustass Kid in the anime showing his overwhelming power again. With him seemingly getting more serious about finding the “One Piece,” his newly-confirmed connections to the World Government and the Gorosei, and his mysterious past, he remains one of the biggest enigmas of the series as it heads towards the endgame.
