Solo Leveling Overtakes One Piece and Demon Slayer as the Most-Rated Anime on Crunchyroll

“Are you the king?” Solo Leveling has officially overtaken ONE PIECE and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as the most-rated anime on Crunchyroll following the premiere of Episode 11 of the show’s second season. At the time of this writing, Solo Leveling has over 594,500 ratings on the website, leaving behind ONE PIECE (~594.4k) and Demon Slayer (~587k).

The fact that Solo Leveling already has this achievement testifies of the show’s immense popularity on the platform. Even before getting one in 2024, a petition for an anime adaptation was made in 2019 and had reached over 200,000 signatures. A-1 Pictures delivered a solid adaptation, which was also Crunchyroll’s most-watched anime of last year.

Solo Leveling has now set this record with a total of 23 episodes. For comparison, ONE PIECE currently has a total of 1122 episodes on the platform (along with some extras). On the other hand, Demon Slayer has a total of 63 episodes so far (that’s including the movie’s TV version). It’s important to note, however, that the ratings are for the entire series, and that this is separate from the individual likes/dislikes each episode has.

Other anime adaptations of Korean webtoons/manhwa available on Crunchyroll include Noblesse, The God of High School and Tower of God, each of which has an average rating of 4.6/5.0 on the platform on a significantly lower number of ratings. Noblesse sits at around 21k ratings, The God of High School at around 48k, and Tower of God has a little over a 104k. You can see how some of the most popular titles compare below.

About Solo Leveling

The story began as a web novel titled Only I Level Up (나 혼자만 레벨업), written by Chugong (a pseudonym). It was serialized digitally starting in 2016 on the Korean platform KakaoPage.

In 2018, the novel was adapted into a webtoon (a digital comic format optimized for mobile reading) by REDICE Studio, a South Korean studio known for high-quality manhwa (Korean comics). The webtoon’s art was drawn by Jang Sung-rak, better known by his pen name DUBU. The script was initiallyadapted to the webtoon format by Gi So-Ryeong (2018–2019), while h-goon took over from 2019 up until its end in 2023. Tragically, DUBU passed away in July 2022 due to chronic health issues.

The Solo Leveling anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures is based on the webtoon. Season 1 ran for 12 episodes from January to April 2024, with the main staff consisting of Shunsuke Nakashige as the director, Tomoko Sudo as the character designer, Hiroyuki Sawano as the music composer, and Noboru Kimura in charge on the series composition.

Solo Leveling was voted the most anticipated anime of Winter 2024, and it also won Best New Anime at our Winter 2024 Anime Awards. The second season was then voted as the most anticipated show of Winter 2025 this season. It placed fourth in our latest weekly ranking (Week 10).

Crunchyroll describes the story:
They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but that’s not the case for the world’s weakest hunter Sung Jinwoo. After being brutally slaughtered by monsters in a high-ranking dungeon, Jinwoo came back with the System, a program only he could see, that’s leveling him up in every way. Now, he’s inspired to discover the secrets behind his powers and the dungeon that spawned them.

Do you think that anything has a chance to compete with Solo Leveling as the most-rated anime on Crunchyroll? There are still two episodes left of the second season, and there is no doubt that the anime will keep going as there is plenty of material left for numerous more seasons.
